The Peter Rabbit News Service

The Peter Rabbit News Service was the first radio news program created and broadcast specifically for children (Myers, 2018).  In this program, “Peter Rabbit conducted a newsroom which he called reporters from the animal world who talld of events occurring nationally and internationally, in the local schools, and special features of interest to children.  Guest personalities were interviewed in each broadcast” (Morgan, 1951, p. 74).

There are no drawings related to this program even though there was a substantial amount of community interaction in the form of postcards, games, letters, and promotional materials.  The only known remaining artifacts related to this program are a variety of pictures, such as the one above, which used with permission and courtesy of Indiana State University Archives.

The Peter Rabbit News Service ran from 1948-1964 and may have run even longer; however, the paper trail ends there.

This picture below is a screenshot of the original front cover (left) and back cover illustration (right) of the 1901 book version of The Tale of Peter Rabbit.  It is still for sale at traditional and not-so-traditional booksellers, such as Amazon.com, which is also where the image below this information may be found.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was published by Beatrix Potter in 1901, two years before Clarence Morgan’s birth.  Peter Rabbit, and the characters associated with his garden-raiding escapades, are now classics and remain childhood favorites.

The Tale has been translated into a multitude of languages, merchandising, and a variety of book and movie version.  Peter Rabbit remains a favorite; however, it doubtful that the original bunny pictured on the book cover below never hopped into Forrestville like his 1948 version did
